Athlete of the Quarter – Darrell Boone
When did you start CrossFit? I started twice a week sessions in July 2016 and switched to 4-6 times a week in December 2016
What motivated you to start? Three things, Lael’s persistent reminder that CrossFit is fun and that I would enjoy it (he was right), my orthopedist’s instructions to begin doing exercises to strengthen the muscles in my knees to avoid having another surgery and a desire to feel good and be healthy.
Favorite WOD (if any)? Any of them that doesn’t include an overhead squat. I like variety so I like most of them but I’m not a fan of the overhead squat.
Favorite Olympic lift (if any)? Clean & Jerk
Goal(s) for the next few months? I try to live in the moment so my goal is to always give my best effort everyday with the belief that little improvements create great results in the long term.
What helps you get through tough WODs? I’m competitive with myself. I remind myself that I want my workouts to be limited only by my physical limitations not my mind or desire.
Any advice for newbies? Listen to the coaches, have a consistent workout schedule, be comfortable with doing your best regardless how it might appear or compare to others, be supportive & encouraging to/of others and enjoy all of the small victories (yours & others) along the way!
